Views of the countryside

That the Arabic “Buj” in Bujalcayado means a watchtower is testimony to the privileged site of the village as a lookout point over miles of countryside. Looking South is a view over the valley  fields and salinas to the similar village of Carabias, six  kilometres away on the other side of the valley. Slightly to the East, on a nearby hillside and hidden by trees, are the ruins of the village hermitage, in whose legendary cold springwater children once bathed to prove their strength. Further East is a clear view down the valley that leads to Siguenza. Perhaps the most dramatic views, especially as the sun sets, are Westwards towards the Sierras of Guadalajara, dominated by the 2,500 metre peak of the Alto Rey.
