In the village

At the entrance to the village from the East is the Plaza Mayor, whose main features are the huge elm tree, the Church and the fuente, gushing surges of clear springwater. Close to this Square are some of the surviving rustic houses of the old village families.  Calle Chorillo, leading West from the plaza, past the ruin of the village oven (horno) and on towards the cemetery, has marvellous views of the valley, the saltpans below and mountains beyond. Upwards, there are streets of cottages and stables that have long since collapsed into pyramids of stones and artistic sculptures of hanging woodwork. You climb out of the top of the village past stoneworked spring pools and threshing terraces (heras) out onto the hills.
